Workers' Compensation Insurance
Workers' Compensation Insurance
At Brooks Commercial Insurance Services, we help businesses stay protected and compliant by anticipating the risks of on-the-job injuries and work-related illnesses.
What Is Workers’ Compensation Insurance?
Workers’ Compensation Insurance is required in most states when you have W-2 employees—and in some states, you may also be required to cover certain 1099 contractors. This coverage pays for an employee’s medical care, lost wages, and disability benefits if they’re injured or become ill while performing work-related duties.
Depending on the state, owners, officers, partners, and other principals may have the option to include or exclude themselves from coverage.
Employer’s Liability Coverage
Workers’ Compensation policies also include Employer’s Liability, which protects your business if an employee claims their injury or illness was caused by unsafe working conditions or negligence.
You may see this written in contracts as:
“Workers’ Compensation and Employer’s Liability Insurance shall be provided as required by statutory regulations. Employer’s Liability limits shall be no less than:
$1,000,000 per accident (bodily injury by accident)
$1,000,000 policy limit (bodily injury by disease)
$1,000,000 per employee (bodily injury by disease).”
These limits satisfy many higher-tier contractor, commercial, and government contract requirements.
